Open Days Garden Tour: Kayne Garden
By now you must know I am hooked on garden tours, believing that experiencing great garden spaces is an essential, ongoing part of the landscape designer or landscape architect’s education. Yesterday I toured six Los Angeles residential gardens as part of The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program. Below are images of my favorite garden that day.
Designed by Pamela Burton + Company, the Kayne garden is a both child-friendly and exquisitely stylish. With an impeccable mix of materials and pared-down Mediterranean plant palette, the garden is an oasis of calm, comfort and warmth. The front garden features three long raised vegetable planters which are tucked behind a lacy screen of Pittosporum tenufolium ‘Silver Sheen.’ The entry sequence of mature olives, native carex and roses provides a visual tie between the front courtyard and back dining areas.
- Raised beds next to the driveway.
- Sweet children’s swings in the tree.
- Vegetable garden next to the street, behind an airy hedge.
- Entry sequence with mature olive trees.
- A lovely olive-shaded dining area.
- Lots of ipe decking and paths.
- A board-formed concrete fireplace next to the house.
