Hollywood Garden Tour: Judy Horton
Surrounding one of the original 1920’s Hollywoodland cottages in Beachwood Canyon, Landscape designer Judy Horton’s garden is a jewel box filled with plants that reflect her 25 years of gardening and designing. I was amazed at the number of unusual plants (270 species!) tucked into the tiny garden when I visited in June as part of the Southern California Horticultural Society’s Coffee in the Garden Series.
- Echeveria ‘Ruffles’ is stunning grouped in a container.
- A fast-growing hedge of Teucrium fruticans
- A collection of Mediterranean plants, including purple-flowering Vitex agnus-castus (Chaste tree)
- An unusual variegated acanthus.
- Horton’s driveway acts as a nursery, a place to audition plants before placing them in client’s gardens.
