Spring is garden tour season, and this year I came across Garden Dialogues, a national series of tours sponsored by the Cultural Landscape Foundation, that highlight gardens created by some of the most accomplished designers currently in practice.

How do clients and designers work together? What makes for a great, enduring collaboration? Landscape architect Pamela Burton (Pamela Burton & Co.) and architect Mario Violich (Moore  Ruble Yudell Architects & Planners) led a lively discussion and tour of the Gilbert Residence.   Pointing out subtle, yet essential qualities of light, materials and seasonality, Violich and Burton helped reveal the soul of the home and garden.
